Let’s give three cheers to the new ambassadors of children mental health care, the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge, Prince William and Kate Middleton.
In the 2 minute video released today, to promote Children’s Mental Health Week, Kate expresses such a refreshing view towards mental health care in England through the charity, Place2Be. Kate, who is a mother and pregnant with another little prince or princess, shows true commitment towards helping those in need. Not only with mental health issues.
The duchess says: “The stigma around mental health means that many children do not get the help that they so badly need. This needs to change. It is not a sign of weakness to ask for help.”
Which is so good to finally hear! With such an important figure taking a stand against the negative stigma surely this means the nation can finally start to change.
She carries on saying: “A child’s mental health is just as important as their physical health, and deserves the same quality of support.
No one would be embarrassed seeking help for a child if they broke their arm. And we really should be equally ready to support a child coping with emotional difficulties.”
This couldn’t be more accurate, I know many people who have suffered through the years being told they will ‘grow out of it’. But this will now hopefully mean they will be able to seek help from actual professionals and begin to create a better understanding of mental health.
Do you think the royal couple will help encourage more people to seek help? Or does their status take away the effect?
